New Year’s Resolutions are a great way to start off the year and what better goals to have than making your dream home a reality. This is a great time to make the changes you’ve been wanting to in order to make your house a home.
Color
While we are continuing our love affair with gray, 2018 is turning up the shade. Light and bright has a competitor with dark, bold colors appearing everywhere. Dark charcoal is coming to light along with deep dark shades of blue, green and every color in between. These colors pop against white wood work and lighter furniture so it doesn’t have to feel heavy. What are we loving today? A mix of neutrals gone dark.

Accessorize
Make one of your home’s New Year’s Resolutions to find a balance between accessorizing and clutter. Invest in functional as well as appealing accessories so they have a dual purpose. Baskets double as casual storage for blankets while adding texture and character. Replace your ottoman with poufs or cube ottomans for added seating when entertaining. Make them into the coffee table with a chic tray that’s easily moved and can contain all your remotes. Gather up canisters for your kitchen not only to organize your utensils, but for added charm. Tired of your occasional tables or nightstands collecting everything? Replace one with an accent cabinet for storage and an eclectic feel.

Master the Bedroom
This is the year to focus on those rooms that take a backseat. Spending a third of your life in a space that sometimes functions as a living room, dining room or even an office can create a not so master experience. The great thing is unless your master bedroom needs a major remodel, you can keep a small budget by making a couple cosmetic changes. First, freshen up your bedding. A layered look can keep it fresh year round and allows you to adjust for different seasons and temperatures. Mix textures, patterns and colors or keep it simple to suit your style. Lighting can make or break a room and the master bedroom is no different. Install a dimmer switch for a less harsh transition from sleep to awake. Lamps are a necessity. Not only can they softly light your space, lamps can also be décor which keeps your accessories to a minimum. Accent chairs help soften a room that can quickly become dominated by wood and hard edges. Choose an armless or a parson’s chair if you are small on space. Lastly, don’t forget the rug. Carpet or not, a rug brings softness and style to start your day out right.

This is the year to enjoy your home. Make at least one room a priority over the next months and create a space that feels like you.
Happy New Year!
